About me

I am a person-centred counsellor working in Leigh-on-Sea and online. Person-centred therapy, sometimes called Rogerian or non-directive therapy, starts from the view that you are the expert on your own life. My work is to help you find your own way through rather than to tell you what to do.

I know that approaching counselling for the first time can feel daunting. I work at your pace, in a calm and unhurried way, and there is nothing you need to have worked out before you arrive.

Alongside one to one counselling I offer equine-assisted therapy at Silver Birch Animal Farm, working with the horses and ponies there. Horses respond to what is actually going on in a person rather than to what that person says is going on, which can be a gentler route in for people who find talking difficult, and for children and teenagers in particular. There is no riding involved and no experience with horses is needed.

My training is in person-centred therapy and my work is informed by inner child and Jungian analytical therapy. I trained in equine-assisted learning with LEAP, I am currently studying polyvagal theory, and I am a member of the Equine Polyvagal Institute.

Before training as a counsellor I spent my first career in advertising and film, and I still make documentaries. LOCK 4 TIMES, which I produced and directed in 2020, looked at the effect of the pandemic on people’s mental health. TAILS FROM THE BORDER, in 2023, followed the animals caught up in the war in Ukraine.

I work with adults, young adults, teenagers and children, in person in Leigh-on-Sea and online across the UK.
