How I can help
I support clients experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, emotional distress, low self-esteem, life transitions, and personality-related challenges. I also work with concerns around pregnancy, postnatal emotional wellbeing, infertility, women’s emotional health, and complex personal or relational difficulties. My approach is integrative and tailored to each individual, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Humanistic approaches. I offer both in-person sessions in Didcot, Oxfordshire, as well as online therapy, creating a safe and collaborative space where meaningful change, emotional healing, and personal growth can take place at your own pace.

About me
My name is Gulsan Abubakar Karbani, and I am the founder of AlHaqiqa Counselling & Psychotherapy. I am a PNCPS Accredited therapist with over 40 years of professional experience supporting individuals and families through a wide range of emotional, psychological, and life challenges.
For 35 years, I worked within the NHS as a Principal Genetic Counsellor, where I supported individuals and families through highly sensitive and emotionally complex situations. This experience shaped my understanding of compassionate care, active listening, and the importance of providing support that respects each person’s unique life journey.
I qualified in Therapeutic Counselling in 1993 and hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Over the years, I have developed an integrative therapeutic approach, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Humanistic approaches.
I believe therapy should be a safe, respectful, and collaborative process where people feel genuinely heard and understood. My aim is to provide a calm and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, better understand themselves, and move toward meaningful emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
