Training, qualifications & experience

I am a professionally qualified counsellor and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

My core training is integrative and person-centred, and my practice is trauma-informed. I undertake ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision in line with BACP requirements.

My professional background spans counselling, mental health, education, disability and family support. I have experience supporting adults, young people, students, parents and carers, including disabled and neurodivergent people and those living with long-term, complex or life-limiting health conditions.

I also bring experience from university counselling, mental health and specialist mentoring services, supporting students and young adults with anxiety, academic pressure, increasing independence, neurodivergence, identity and uncertainty about the future.

As part of my integrative approach, I may also draw on techniques from Split Second Unlearning (SSU), helping us notice emotional responses, body cues, patterns or triggers that can happen quickly and automatically. This is always used collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you.

My main areas of work include life transitions and adjustment, grief and bereavement, anxiety and overwhelm, disability and long-term health conditions, caring responsibilities, neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ experiences and identity, students and young adults, relationship and family pressures, and menopause or other changes in life stage.

About me

Hello, I’m Jeanette, founder of Calm Mind Space.

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out quite as we expected. You may be facing a significant change, coping with loss, carrying a lot for other people, or finding that somewhere along the way you’ve lost sight of yourself. You might be managing day-to-day but underneath feel overwhelmed, anxious, low or unsure about what comes next.

I support adults and young people aged 16+ through life transitions, loss and adjustment. This might include bereavement, changes in health or disability, becoming a carer or supporting someone you love, changes in relationships, family life or work, menopause, starting university or becoming more independent, or exploring identity and neurodivergence.

My core approach is person-centred and integrative. I offer a space where you can talk openly about things that may be difficult to say elsewhere, without feeling judged, rushed or that you need to look after somebody else’s feelings. I won’t tell you what you should do. Instead, we can think about things together, make sense of what is happening and explore what you need.

My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirmative and neuro-affirming. I have a personal connection to the LGBTQ+ community and welcome people exploring sexuality, identity, belonging or experiences of feeling different.

Online and telephone counselling is available across the UK. In-person sessions may also be possible at suitable locations across the North East, depending on room availability and by prior arrangement.

Appointments are generally available Monday to Thursday in the early morning and evening, with Friday morning availability.

Online and telephone sessions are £50. In-person sessions are usually £60 where additional room hire costs apply.

I also offer a free initial conversation of up to 20 minutes so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
