Summary of Experience

Deciding to give counselling a try is a big, and perhaps, daunting step. Finding someone who you don’t know but with whom you will be sharing personal, often intimate, thoughts and feelings can feel scary. How to go about this difficult task? The first step is to find a person who you feel you might be able to work with as well as being a counsellor with a professional profile appropriate to your needs. Counselling can be a challenging experience and feeling safe and able to trust your counsellor is essential if it is to be helpful. Next arrange an exploratory meeting, see how it feels and be guided by your own feelings. I can offer you a first session together with no obligation for you to continue. This should enable you to get a better feel of whether we could work together. For me, counselling is a partnership with two people trying to understand and respond to one person’s difficulties and concerns. I am usually able to be helpful people of all heritages. I have worked in an NHS, voluntary sector and private sector settings and I am experienced in helping with many kinds of difficulties, whether individuals or couples. Counselling whether short or long term can enable you to understand yourself better and develop new insights that can help you find a way ahead to a more contented way of living.
