Session Types:
I work with both children & adults and have a keen interest in working with those who have experienced complex/relational trauma with or without self harming/suicidal behaviour. I work with a variety of mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. I also work with couples experiencing difficulties in their relationship and work towards understanding the emotional conflicts, that result in the relationship being strained or likely to end without support. There is no one size fits all therapeutic approach and so I place importance on developing a shared understanding of what the core emotional issues are that impact you.
The initial sessions should focus on developing a shared understanding of what is going on psychologically that is giving rise to your difficulties, or perpetuating them. A shared understanding of what is the matter, provides a focus for psychotherapy. Effective therapy has a focus & this will help with better outcomes and ultimately life outside of therapy.
Spending time on the therapeutic alliance is important in creating the shared purpose of therapy. This is why attending to the therapuetic alliance, agreeing the purpose of therapy and having an agreement about the methods we will use to achieve that purpose is important for effective outcomes. All three elements are necessary and meaningful for change.

I am an experienced therapist working with children and adults, including those affected by complex or relational trauma, with or without self-harm or suicidal behaviour. I also support anxiety, depression and couples facing relationship strain or possible separation. My work is based on developing a clear, shared understanding of the emotional patterns driving the difficulties, rather than applying a fixed model. Early sessions focus on clarifying what is happening psychologically and agreeing a purposeful focus for therapy. I prioritise the therapeutic relationship and shared goals, as a strong alliance and clear direction are key to meaningful change.
