I’m Semeyra, a BACP accredited counsellor/therapist. Thank you for reading my profile.
In my counselling/therapy work, I am able to draw upon the experience and skills gained from 15 years of helping individual clients to overcome and manage the full spectrum of relationship, mental health and life challenges.
As an experienced therapist, I work with my clients to reflect, gain insight and awareness into their difficulties, what caused them, what might be keeping them going (internally – in terms of internalised experiences, beliefs, motivations and externally in terms of their environment and behaviour) and consider together, with empathy and patience, any changes that might be helpful to ultimately manage and overcome their problems and move towards living the life they would like.
I am very experienced at working with people both short and long term, to make changes in their lives and break free from difficult patterns or repetitive behaviour that might have been holding them back.
In my work with you, I will provide a safe and supportive therapeutic setting, where we can work together to understand the issues that have brought you to therapy and find ways of moving forward and helping you identify and make any changes that might be helpful. This is always grounded in patience, compassion and empathy.
My original training was humanistic integrative (including psychodynamic) and I continue to integrate different modalities within my work, depending on your needs and aims.
My Experience
I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, to enable them to cope with and overcome a wide range of relationship, mental health and life challenges.
My special interests/ particular expertise is in working with individual people who have experienced childhood/family trauma, alongside a wide range of relationship-related problems. This includes; attachment -related issues, repetitive relationship patterns, problems starting/maintaining relationships, communication issues with partners, family or friends, sexual problems, break-ups.
Alongside my 15 years’ experience and accreditation with individual clients, I am also now in-training to work with couples. This allows me to offer online couples sessions at a much lower fee.
While my couples training is ongoing, I bring significant experience to couples work, having spent 15 years working with individual therapy clients, including those attending with relationship issues. I have attended many trainings in topics relevant to couples, I also have experience in facilitating groups.
As well as my special interests I am also very experienced in working with a wide range of other mental health/life issues including; low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, study or work stress, bereavement, past abusive experiences, illness, addictive behaviour, body image difficulties, cultural identity issues.
I also have significant experience in supporting people with disabilities and neuro-developmental conditions – including Autism, ADHD and learning disabilities.
I have worked with many clients through my private practice, employee assistance programmes and 3 busy London university services (including Russell Group institutions) as a counsellor/therapist. In the past, I also saw therapy clients with the mental health organisation MIND and the NHS.
