There are 10 therapists and counsellors on The Therapist Finder who work with clients in Hackney. Every profile is checked against a professional register before it goes live. The list is below, and the filters let you narrow it down by the difficulty you want help with or the kind of therapy you are looking for.
All of them offer online sessions, and eight also see clients in person.
Fees here run from £60 to £150 a session, and the middle of the range is about £85. Two therapists charge £60. Couples sessions usually cost more than individual ones, and each profile shows that therapist's own fee. Our guide to therapy fees explains how this compares with the rest of London.
Seven list relationship problems, six bereavement, five anxiety, five depression and four trauma. Choose a difficulty in the filter below to see only those who work with it. Two work with couples, and you can see more on our page for couples therapy in Hackney. We also have pages on grief counselling in Hackney and trauma therapy in Hackney. However different their methods, what tends to matter most is how you feel with the person, so it is worth having a first conversation with one or two before deciding.
Hackney has no Tube, but it is well served by the Overground, with stations at Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, Homerton, Dalston Junction and Haggerston. Hackney Downs also has trains to Liverpool Street. Buses run along Mare Street, Kingsland Road and Lower Clapton Road. If you need step-free access, ask the therapist before your first session.
If you live in Hackney or the City of London, or are registered with a GP there, you can refer yourself to City and Hackney Talking Therapies, the free NHS service that used to be called Talk Changes. You don't need to see your GP first: you can refer yourself on their website, cityandhackneytalkingtherapies.homerton.nhs.uk. It offers short, structured therapy for common problems such as anxiety and depression. If you would like longer-term therapy, or to choose your own therapist, private therapy is the other route.
If you need urgent help, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or call 999 in an emergency.
